Today my blog is all about the topic of microblading as well as my experiences plus before/after pictures!
What is Microblading?
Microblading is a way to get natural and permanent eyebrows. This is particularly suitable for those who are dissatisfied with the density or shape of their eyebrows. This is a special pigmentation technique that creates deceptively real, permanent hairs. The hairs are very finely drawn or lightly scratched into the skin using a so-called blade (which is a pen with small needles placed together).
How does it work?
As already mentioned, the color of the hairs is brought into the skin with a blade. Before the first cuts are made, the first and most time-consuming step is on the agenda: the future eyebrow shape must be recorded. This involves using the golden ratio to determine various points on the face so that the lines can be drawn from there. Lada took a lot of time to draw the perfect brows for me, which of course fit me and my face perfectly.
And then it gets down to business: The first cuts were made with a sterile disposable blade. The blade is already full of color during the process and then applies it to the skin as it cuts. Once all the cuts or blades have been made, color is applied and worked in again over the entire eyebrow.
Microblading vs. permanent make-up
Permanent makeup involves piercing deeper layers of the skin, which makes the color last longer but also causes the lines to blur during the healing process. With microblading, each hair can be traced individually, as the cut and color are only applied to the upper layers of the skin and therefore do not blur. So the lines remain very clear and fine.
How long does a microblading treatment take and last?
One treatment takes time about 1.5 – 2 hours. Be sure to plan around 3 hours, because before the treatment you will discuss the procedure, the eyebrow shape, the right color and all other things worth knowing!
Depending on skin type, metabolism and environmental influences, microblading lasts around 1-2 years. If it becomes paler, you can easily have it refreshed. During the follow-up treatment, the already dead hairs are intensified and gaps are also filled again.
Is follow-up treatment necessary?
A follow-up treatment makes sense if you would like to re-pigment certain areas or have specific wishes regarding shape and thickness. The color intensity can also be adjusted slightly here. Whether you need follow-up treatment also depends on your own skin: Oily skin types that struggle with heavy oil production will lose their pigments much more quickly than, for example, dry skin like I have. Age and metabolism also play an important factor. In very young women, between 18 and 25 years of age, the body/metabolism works much faster than in women of a certain age, which in turn can lead to accelerated fading. For example, after 3.5 months I…
How much does it cost?
The first treatment costs €590. The 2nd follow-up treatment within 4 months costs €80. The annual refresher (within 3 years) costs €280.
In general, the prices of the treatments are in this range. On the one hand, you should treat a very cheap offer with caution and on the other hand, there will also be real price increases that do not justify the performance. As always, experience reports and your own impression of the cosmetic studio count here. Be sure to arrange a free type and consultation in advance to get a first impression!
The healing process and care
To ensure a beautiful end result and perfect eyebrows, there are a few care tips that you should follow after the treatment. Good microblading can only be achieved if you follow the care instructions!
- You should avoid sun, solarium, sauna and swimming pool for about 2 weeks after the treatment. Exercise because of sweating is also not ideal! For me and my trip to Italy that means wearing a hat! 🙂
- In addition, the eyebrows should be cleaned every hour on the first day after the treatment (simply with your fingers and water) and applied very thinly and sparingly to prevent crust formation. From the 2nd day onwards it is sufficient to apply cream to the brows as required/at your own discretion.
- By the way, you can only see the final color result after approx. 14 days. The eyebrows will be a little lighter than they appear immediately after microblading.
The most important thing at the end: Does it hurt?
Clearly: Nope! It really depends on how sensitive you are to pain. It wasn’t pleasant, but it wasn’t like I wanted to run away screaming either. To me it felt like someone was plucking out several eyebrow hairs at once. Sometimes more and sometimes less intense. But at no time did I feel any real pain. In addition, the anticipation of the result was so great that I was happy to accept the pain. By the way, I also know girls who didn’t find it painful or unpleasant at all – maybe that’s the case for some of you too :)) And as a small point of consolation: a tattoo is definitely more painful and takes a lot longer (depending on the size, of course).
My conclusion about microblading
I’m incredibly happy that I gave it a second try and am now ‘equipped’ with beautiful, full brows. Lada did an incredibly great job, gave me excellent advice right from the start and I felt 100% in the right hands with her. Defined brows simply ensure a fresh look and more expression on the face and I have to say that having to make up my brows every day really annoyed me. However, since eyebrows frame the face, leaving out the brow pencil wasn’t an option for me. However, today I can do it! Only my transparent brow gel is still in use.
