Which marinade for grilled salmon?
A juicy piece of grilled salmon is a real treat and the right marinade can enhance the taste experience even further. A popular variant is a mixture of good olive oillemon juice, chopped dill, garlic and honey. This combination creates a perfect balance between the freshness of the lemon, the spice of the garlic and the sweetness of the honey. The dill adds an aromatic note that goes great with fish. Also Asian-inspired marinades with soy sauce, lime, sesame oil or teriyaki perfectly emphasize the aroma of grilled salmon.
Tip: Before grilling, the salmon should rest in the marinade for about 30 minutes so that it can absorb all the flavors. Prepared in this way, the salmon becomes crispy on the outside when grilled and remains wonderfully tender on the inside.
How to grill salmon?
There are three options to choose from when grilling salmon. Here we explain what constitutes the individual variants and what needs to be taken into account:
#1 Grilled salmon from the grill
Nothing is as delicious as fresh salmon cooked on the grill. The fish works best if you grill it over indirect, medium heat. This means the salmon is cooked gently without burning or drying out. Before grilling, brush the salmon with a little oil to prevent it from sticking to the grill.
Tip: Grilled salmon also tastes delicious when wrapped in aluminum foil. Advantage? You can pepper the packages with ingredients such as herbs and lemons before grilling to give the salmon a delicious aroma.
#2 Grilled salmon from the oven
It’s raining outside, but you’re still craving grilled salmon? Then you can also prepare the fish in the oven – ideally on the baking tray or in one casserole dish. If your oven has a grill function, you can use this to make salmon just as tasty as on the grill.
Good to know: The core temperature for perfectly grilled salmon should be around 60 degrees. Then it is optimally and fully cooked.
#3 Grill salmon on the wooden board
We have a very special variant for real grill fans: grilled salmon from a wooden board! To do this, the salmon is cooked on a cedar wood board with indirect heat (185 – 200 °C) on the grill grate before grilling (e.g. in a kettle grill). The grilled salmon is ready when the protein comes out after about 10-15 minutes. The smoker board gives the salmon a particularly aromatic note and also makes it nice and juicy.
Which side dishes go well with grilled salmon?
Grilled salmon can be paired with a variety of side dishes. A classic option is young, steamed potatoes, which can be refined with fresh herbs such as dill. A fresh grilled salad with crunchy vegetables offers a light and refreshing addition. For lovers of Mediterranean cuisine, a ratatouille made from seasonal vegetables or a homemade couscous salad with lemon juice and parsley. Also grilled vegetablesbaked potatoes or grilled green asparagus are a great side dish for grilled salmon.
My recommendation: Try grilled salmon in a crispy roll with some salad and a delicious dressing.
Which dips and sauces go with grilled salmon?
Grilled salmon is a real treat and is… Grill buffet further refined with the right sauce or dip. A classic option is the dill mustard sauce, whose spicy note goes perfectly with the delicate flavor of fish. Creamy herb dips based on cream cheese or yoghurt, refined with chives, parsley or chervil, are also popular. A mango salsa provides a fruity variant, with its sweet and spicy component adding an exotic note. A simple lemon-basil dip can also perfectly emphasize the taste of the salmon. Or how about homemade pesto? This variety of dips and sauces makes grilling salmon a culinary experience.
Tip: The dip or sauce should not cover up the fish’s own taste, but should underline it perfectly!
Tips and tricks for perfectly grilled salmon
To make your grilled salmon particularly tasty, we would be happy to give you a few valuable tips:
- For this treat, go for quality rather than quantity. It is best to buy the salmon side from a fish shop. There you will often also get useful tips and tricks along the way.
- First of all, you should note that salmon, which is already naturally rich in healthy fats, only requires a little oil for grilling.
- You should also only turn the salmon on the grill once – ideally when it is still a third raw.
- The right timing is particularly important because salmon can overcook very quickly and therefore quickly become dry.
- But it’s not just the watch that decides, but also your eyes. Watch your salmon carefully: the delicious fish is ready when it has a slightly glassy appearance on the top and a light pink color.
- Leave the skin on when grilling salmon. It ensures that the fish does not get too much heat and become dry. The skin can be eaten or thrown away after grilling.
- You can safely eat grilled salmon during pregnancy as long as the fish is fully cooked. Pathogens are killed at temperatures well above 70 degrees.
