#1 Option: Juicing currants – This is how it works
To make jam or juice from fruits, you can juice the currants in a machine or in the traditional way. To juice with the machine, first wash and destem the currants. Then put the fruit in the juicer, which squeezes out the juice and sorts the seeds into a separate container. Then sieve the juice again through a fine sieve so that any seeds that have passed through are filtered out.
If you don’t have a juicer, you can still make juice the traditional way. Wash and stem the currants before putting them in a pot. There the fruits are boiled with 125 milliliters of water and 50 grams of sugar. Remove the pot from the heat and pour the mixture into a cheesecloth. Hang this over a bowl overnight so that the juice can drip out.
#2 Option: Strain currants – This is how it works
Instead of juicing, you can strain the currants to get rid of the seeds from the fruit. This is traditionally done very easily using a fine sieve. After washing and removing the stems, simply place the currants in a fine sieve and mash them with a fork. Place a container under the sieve so that the juice and pulp can be collected.
This work can also be done using a kitchen appliance. The strainer is very easy to use and the seeds are removed in no time. After washing and removing the stems, put the fruit in and the crank with the perforated disc crushes the pulp. Meanwhile, the juice can flow out and the seeds are collected. To be on the safe side, you should sieve the juice again at the end to filter out any seeds that have slipped through.
